Wow, completely different experience from other “pod coffeemakers”

“Is this a good coffee maker?” Well, that’s going to depend upon your expectations in coffee. If you’re looking for a “pod coffee maker” that makes normal drip coffee (think Keurig) then Nespresso is somewhat different, and may or may not meet your expectations.I also have a Keurig. It’s just fine for brewing basic, cheap coffee (or more expensive if you buy major-brand-name capsules). I like my Keurig–we’ve had it for over 5 years, and it works great. But, those who are environmentally conscious will soon realize that Keurig is not recyclable at all, and countless billions of pods a year are making their way into landfills.Nespresso’s pods are made of 100% recycled/recyclable aluminum. Nespresso is VERY focused on a goal of 100% recycle-ability, and provides recycling bags with fully pre-paid shipping. Fill the bag (holds about 75-100 capsules), seal it, and drop it off at your nearest UPS store (or Nespresso store/kiosk if you happen to have one in a mall nearby). Nespresso will dismantle the pods, collect all the used grounds and process it into compost for landscaping use, and then melt down the pods and recycle them. 100% recycled! All those recycling costs are already built in to the pod cost, so while these pods are more expensive than Keurig, there is ZERO waste as long as the consumer does their job.The best way I can describe Nespresso is it’s a totally new coffee “experience.” Espresso or “foo foo coffee” lovers will likely be very pleased with this machine line. Folks who aren’t impressed with anything beyond a drip cup may find Nespresso a little “snooty” for them.Nespresso’s Vertuo product produces coffee that is much more similar to a cup of espresso. The pods are spun at variable RPM’s (typically 3000 – 7000RPM) and use “centrifusion” – a made up word intended to commingle “centrifugal force” and “infusion”. Basically, they spin the pod, a pump squirts in water, and the spinning forces produce the coffee which is extracted and drips into the cup. It’s not particularly noisy for a kitchen appliance, but you can definitely hear the spinning. Regardless of pod, they all come out with a layer of crema (coffee foam). There are (at the moment) five “sizes” of pods, which produce 1.5oz (espresso) up through 14 oz (“Alto XL”).As with any product line, there are pros and cons. There are some fantastic things about Vertuo and a few limitations.Pros: Absolutely fantastic coffee. All cups have a crema layer on them, and there are a relatively plentiful number of flavors and intensities available, ranging from lighter and fruitier/acidic flavors all the way up to very dark bold and smoky options. There are seasonal special pods as well, such as holiday blends or single-origin “master” type coffees. Pods and contents are 100% recyclable. Easy to use out of the box–there’s ONE button. You press it. It works. Milk frother (optional add-on, included in our purchase) is FANTASTIC. I thought it was going to be a gimmick, but I use it with every cup! It’s easy to use, and creates that “latte experience”–it makes better lattes’ than a certain really large chain whose name ends with “bucks”–yeah, you’ll spend ’em there. Pod cost, compared to an espresso shop brewing an equivalent latte for you, is cheap. VERY tightly-integrated recycling: drop pods in bag. Bag full? Seal it and drop it off at your UPS store. Pre-paid return shipping means zero-extra cost. Done. Milk frother is VERY easy to clean–takes about 15 seconds, if that. I’ve only owned the machine for a month, but the build and overall experience lends itself to belief this is a very high-quality unit. Excellent app (iOS/Android)—you can view/order/manage pods, accessories, maintenance/cleaning products and subscriptions right from your phone/tablet. Love a particular flavor? Just add it to your cart. It even supports automatic/routine replenishment if you want that. Seasonal and other specials show up in the app when available, making the app a one-stop-shop. Company is VERY plugged in environmentally and has created a coffee experience that doesn’t fill a landfill. If you actually play the game the way Nespresso intends, it’s a holistic coffee experience and a great one at that.Cons: No third-party pods, and pods are relatively expensive when compared to other “pod” brewing standards. You want this machine? You’ll be buying Nespresso-branded pods from Nespresso, or authorized resellers, and at full-tilt retail which typically runs about $0.90 for an Espresso pod and up to $1.20 for their normal coffees (some origins are as high as $2.00 a pod). So each cup is roughly double the cost of a Keurig brew. There are about 20 different pod flavors and five sizes available, so most people will find SOMETHING they like, but if you don’t love one of the 20, you’re out of luck as there are no 3rd-party options without “hacking together” a used pod, some self-ground coffee, and some foil cap stickers you found on the Internet.Overall, this is an EXCELLENT machine for those who want more than a pod of coffee. I’ve owned it for a month and I’m 100% hooked.

Easy to use, great coffee, easy to clean.

I have grown to love this machine. One piece of advice for first timers, save all the pods. Rip the foil lids off and dispose of the coffee grounds, wash them out and set them aside, you may want to start to load your own and you’ll need those pods. I bought the;Reusable Vertuo Pods Kit: 10-Second Fast Sealing Reusable Nespresso Vertuo Pods – Refillable Coffee Pods with Smarter Tools & 50 Aluminum Foil Seals,Spoon, and Lid Opener (Pods not included)and the;AANQQ Aluminum Foil Lids for Nespresso Vertuo Reusable Pods: 100 PCS Foil Seal Cover for Refill Espresso Coffee Pods – Fit with Nespresso Vertuoline VertuoPlus Refillable Capsule(Stickers Only)AANQQ Aluminum Foil Lids for Nespresso Vertuo Reusable Pods: 100 PCS Foil Seal Cover for Refill Espresso Coffee Pods – Fit with Nespresso Vertuoline VertuoPlus Refillable Capsule(Stickers Only)and it’s a blast and a savings. Nespresso Vertuo Plus Deluxe

I love this espresso/coffee maker! I chose the option that included the milk frother. It takes under a minute (using both) to have a great cappuccino or latte. The nespresso machine itself is very quick, easy, and there is no clean up (other than your cup.) It comes with a sample variety pack of both coffee and espresso pods.

    Nice Upscale Coffee Maker

I have a Keurig machine at home for the past few years. It’s a good coffee maker and has frother attached to the unit. It does a great job but I’ve always wondered about the Nespresso machines. My sister raved about hers so I decided to give it a go for my new house. This Nespresso Vertuo Plus has exceeded my expectations! It’s easy to use and makes great specialty type coffee with the crema on top. I haven’t had it very long but it hasn’t disappointed me once. Very happy with it!

Simple to use and great tasting coffee or espresso

I purchased this recently and just tried it out yesterday. I had debated the need for one as I have an amazing Delonghi espresso machine purchased the beginning of 2025 (or end of 2024) and have enjoyed using that, along with my Ninja coffee bar from 2 years ago. Because I’ve only used it four times in two days, it’s early to do a review that would do this justice, but I’ll offer my insights from what I know. It’s super simple to set up, very easy to use and is perfect for a small space in the kitchen. If I had a child in a college dorm, this would be perfect. It would be great in a tiny home or camper. Ok, so you get the idea. Great size, and the ability to move the water container to either side or the back is just chef’s kiss. My kitchen is an average size, and with all my other electronics on the counter, this was perfect. The noise is truly minimal. No complaints there. I did happen to use a small espresso cup today and the machine vibrated just enough to move my glass partly away from the espresso stream that a fair amount went into the drip tray before I caught it and held the cup in place. My counter is level, so it’s unrelated to how it is sitting. Even though I just set this up two days ago, I wasn’t going to pour the missed espresso in the tray in my drink. Just be aware of that. If the drip tray had some sort of coating, like a light rubber coat, that would help. As for the coffee and espresso taste quality, so far it’s been good. I will switch back and forth between my espresso machine and the Nespresso, depending on the day. I purchased the Pistachio flavored espresso pods and I was surprised that I could actually taste the flavor. It was strong. I like that there are a lot of flavors and sizes. If you read the top of the pod you will know how much liquid the machine will put out so you can get the correct cup size. Apparently I did not know the correct size of my cute cups and it overflowed, but that is on me. The machine heats up really fast, and depending on what other preparations are needed prior to using it, you can have a nice brew in no time. The instructions sent with the Nespresso aren’t the best. Very minimal and has multiple languages on a single page. Any additional questions or insights can be found on Google (or Edge, whatever browser) and there are some easy to understand videos available. It’s great that the pods are recyclable. I know there are other ways to reuse the ones you have with your own coffee, but I have read from some people that caused the machine to fail at some point. Whether or not it’s truly related no one could say, but I believe I’ll stick to the pods made for the Nespresso. For someone who is trying to save money and make your own specialty coffee at home, I say go for this. You may have to tinker with ingredients, such a syrups, sauces and creamer or milks, but it’s actually fun. I was eyeing some of the cold frothing machines, but decided to try my little handheld frother. It worked very well in my chilled, stainless steel frothing pitcher, especially with whole milk. This summer I’ve been doing iced coffee at home, so having the right tools and knowing how to use them is important to your coffee at home. There are lots of videos to learn from too. I work from home, so I don’t have to go anywhere to get my caffeine fix. Not to mention the cost savings and wait time. Even if I did have to go to work, I could whip up a drink in 5 minutes or less and be out the door, smiling with my drink. ☺️ The price is right too, as an actual espresso machine can be high. Personally I’m glad I have both. I can’t wait to try other flavors!

    My best coffee maker ever.

We have gone through so many coffee makers. Nespresso truly hits the spot. Finally! This machine is so easy to use. I love the frother. The price per cup, for the ones we drink, $1.40-1.50. Some might think that is a little pricey. Compare it to coffee shops. What are they charging now?Out of, maybe, 20 cups, I haven’t had a bad cup nor has my wife.

    The best machine

I bought this to replace a Nespresso Pop by Breville. Although it is a bit more expensive it is a much superior machine. It barely makes any sound when brewing and automatically opens and closes the top for pod placement. With the Pop you have to manually close the top. A number of times it was difficult to do so and would vibrate violently on occasion. Go with this mode.

    Best Coffee Ever!!!!!!

Just buy it! It’s the best coffee you’ll ever have!! I wish I would’ve bought this coffee pot so many years ago. I am 1000% convinced this is the best coffee pot for me and I know it will be for you. If you love coffee as much as I do, you were missing out if you do not have this machine.

    Impressive little bugger!!!

Ok, I’ll admit it. I put it off for a long time because these things were so dang expensive when they first came out. Now that they are actually affordable, I went ahead and splurged. I did opt for an open box to trim off some of the cost. Right out of the box it was super easy to set up. Instructions were easy to follow and I was up and brewing in no time. Ran a few cups of plain water through it for the first few runs just to give everything a good rinse. I lightly pressed the open tab and inserted one of the supplied pods, then lightly pushed the tab to close. Once closed, I waited for the steady green ring and it was off to the races!! I pressed the button and waited with anticipation. It started making some noises, sounded like a jet taking off and then voila! a beautiful cup of espresso with a gorgeous foam head on it. From start to finish it took maybe a minute. The flavors I’ve had so far have all been great! I have nothing negative to say about this machine. I’m only pissed I waited so long to get one!
