Expensive but!
It’s expensive as I replaced my last one, but it’s the same brand and this one does weigh my coffee every time and it stops exactly where I set it. A perfect cup of coffee ☕️ every time. I’m picky. My last one lasted 14 yrs. So for me it’s worth the money. Everything has gone up in price.

I am a huge fan of Baratza grinders but always thought it would be great if there was an all-in-one version with a scale so that I didn’t have to use a separate scale to weight my coffee every time. Well, it is here! Beautifully consistent ground coffee that you can weigh right on the grinder!

A gift that keeps on giving
I have had one of these for 7 years with no problems. It has performed excellently and that’s why I selected it as a gift. The recipient has been very pleased with both the ease of set up and the ability to make changes for different types and/or roasts of coffee. It remains a winner in our view!

The best grinder for filter coffee or French press
I bought this grinder to replace my previous grinder which was a 10+ year old Vario W. The “+” model is a significant improvement over its predecessor.1. The burrs are steel instead of ceramic – this produces better coarse grinds.2. The plastic knobs have been replaced with metal ones. The old plastic ones tended to break a lot.3. The control panel has higher quality buttons and the display is backlit and much easier to read.4. There is a light in grinds bin so you can see the coffee come out. Seems unnecessary but I really like this feature.5. It doesn’t seem to clog up like the Vario did from time to time. The “W” version of the Vario has a digital scale under the grinds bin so you can grind by weight instead of by time. This is essential if you want to produce consistent results day after day and is worth the upgrade IMO.One thing I like about Baratza products over the competition is that they make reasonably priced replacement parts available through their website. That means in a few years if something breaks, you’ll be able to fix it yourself rather than having to junk the whole grinder. This grinder is mostly targeted to people like myself who use French press, Chemex and the like. It produces very consistent coarse grinds. If your interest is primarily espresso, there may be better options for fine grinds.

Slow customer support fr Baratza but came through
update – Got back to me after a week by email and then was very engaged in a back and forth. It’s a great grinder, not sure why it seems difficult to reach them if you need answers soon. One just has to patient and will get thoughtful reply. Hint – don’t use their web forms, just email support directly. The grinder is excellent and I am generally pretty happy with it. Dosing by weight is great – most accurate and easiest workflow if you’re using the bean hopper. It can also do single dosing, although some beans can get hung up in the standard large hopper – instead buy their inexpesive single dose hopper. Grounds retention is really low – typically less than 0.2 gm for me. And the grinds bin is very good and low static – I don’t have to do the bean wetting technique to avoid static grounds mess. But I’m disappointed in their support, which is surprising since Baratza is supposed to be known for strong customer support. I have had some questions and issues to address with Baratza, some for previously ordered items (I just did a replacement instead). Baratza doesn’t answer its phones and explicitly tells you it doesn’t. One does get an automated email response to a web query, but actual responses are delayed (still waiting). Particularly bothersome is it’s poor website – I registered this grinder but it doesn’t show up and when I go to cases, the main active one doesn’t show up – only older ones that I have already resolved.
