    First pot

First pot. Just received this. I don’t know how, but the coffee taste richer and more flavor. We purchase already ground beans, nothing special. But this pot made a difference for the better on taste. Not sure of reliable yet, but seems we’ll made and 5 year warranty. The glass pot did fill light, as would break easy, not sure, just feels that way. As other’s said the plastic pieces feel cheaply made. I don’t see any problems with them. It’s a lot smaller then the pictures seem to show. 10 cups is as much as this holds. I usually have one or two cups in the morning and then carry a 10 cup thermos to work, so I have to pour a couple cups water into it to feel my day out, but it is very fast. This one suppose to have copper tubing instead of aluminum like 99% of all other coffee makers, so we are hoping this helps on crystalllizing like with cheaper makers. Just about all our others slowed, causing us to by new. Most all review sites had this maker on top of the list. So far pleased with purchase

    Well Built

I bought a Moccamaster a few years ago and promptly returned it. It was broken and seemed very cheaply made. I’m not really quite sure if what I received was even a real Moccamaster at this point, because the one I received this time was in an actual Moccamaster box, very well packaged, and does not feel cheap. It does just what it needs to do and is very well built. Glad I tried again. This is a great balance of quality, function, and aesthetics without having to bust into the $300+ (and much more) price range.

    Not your standard coffee maker

My Bonavita coffee maker I’d had for around a decade just died halfway through making a pot of coffee, so I was in need of a new machine, but I refuse to use a pod machine and I wanted something a bit nicer and more interesting than a standard Mr Coffee. I remembered coming across this brand when I was researching my previous pot and was happy to see that they were still around – and that the price hadn’t changed much.First off – it’s a bit large and looks like you’re preparing a science experiment on your counter (which I think is a good thing). It definitely feels solid and well made.Second – the instructions call for wetting the filter in the basket before you put in the coffee. I don’t know if this does anything for the taste, but it does cause the filter to stick to the basket well and prevent it from collapsing and creating a mess.Third – I used the scoop they provided (almost the same size as the one I’d had for forever) and the amount of coffee they recommended, and it was…a lot. The coffee came out quite tasty, but I’d be going through a bag of coffee in a couple of weeks using their measurements, so I decided to drop back to the amount I usually used and it comes out fine. The big question was – at three times the cost of a cheap coffee maker, does this machine make a cup that’s three times better? Not really.I do believe that there is something to the design that allows it to bring out the better flavors when the extra measures of grounds are added, but with the standard measurement I still wind up with a standard – but good – cup. That said, I’m quite happy with my purchase. It’s well built, it makes a good cup, and it looks good doing it. And I know that if I decide to ramp it up a bit with more grounds, I can get a cup that’s even better!

Build materials lacking for overall value

It brews a great cup of coffee but as mentioned in other reviews, the construction material of this unit seems a little cheap. The plastic parts and housing are disappointing for this price point. The quality of the coffee is there, but this is really a matter of perspective. If you are upgrading from a chain store $50 unit you will probably notice a significant difference in quality smoothness, texture, aroma). If you already had a decent midrange maker I am not sure this one will be as impressive. That being said I like the look of this unit and will be keeping it. Just wish the build material quality was better.

What a beautiful coffee machine! I went from a keurig to this because I am drinking about 4-5 cups a day which is a lot of coffee pods so I decided to switch over to a pot. Iโ€™m not gonna lie I stumbled upon this one because I love the terracotta color, I have accents everywhere in that color so when I saw this I knew I was going with this one lol but I am very pleasantly surprised the taste is completely different! Iโ€™m using the same coffee as was in my pods but tastes more bold? Maybe more flavorful? Iโ€™m not sure how to explain it, it tastes like a more expensive cup of coffee I guess, which for the price it should taste like an expensive cup of coffee lol Iโ€™m hoping to have this for a while it seems like it will hold up well. I love the simplicity of it. I hate coffee machines with Bluetooth and 20 different buttons, my keurig had all that nonsense and I never used any of it. It brews a lot quicker also than my keurig which also nice! And the size of this is actually so compact! Itโ€™s probably half the size of my keurig which in the photos it looks big but itโ€™s not at all, itโ€™s very small it takes up hardly any counter space I love it! my keurig looked so bulky and kinda an eye sore. I definitely plan on keeping it, though my Amazon driver did let me know some detergent had spilt on the package during delivery I thought it had just got on the outside of the box but it looks like it soaked through and some of the plastic pieces stink like chemically detergent which is grossing me out. I tried washing the pieces off so if that doesnโ€™t fade away in the next few days I may have to return it but I will definitely be getting the same one Iโ€™m so far a huge fan of this coffee machine and I will update if I experience any issues with it

If you want a really good cup of coffee, look no more!

Why did you pick this product vs others?:I researched coffee makers for a few weeks prior to ordering this machine.  I must say that the Dutch know what they’re doing because, while simple, this coffee maker produces an excellent cup of coffee and doesn’t take up too much counter space.  It also keeps the coffee carafe hot.  I would highly recommend this brand as it is recommended by America’s Test Kitchen as well as other sources.  I was so pleased when I was able to purchase it on Amazon Prime Days…but, it’s totally worth the full retail price.  My last coffee maker lasted only 4 years.

    The best coffee maker

Iโ€™ve been through a lot of coffee makers through the years. This is my favorite. It makes a delicious cup of coffee. It is easy to make and equally easy to clean. And the best part is that it does not take up a lot of room on the kitchen counter

Great machine better cup of coffee

Follow the guide, and you will not be disappointed! We never knew what we were missing, this is a great machine. Simple to use and the best cup I have tasted other than a really fancy coffee shop. I know some complain about the lightweight carafe and thatโ€™s definitely a bit light but itโ€™s about the coffee not the carafe. Itโ€™s a great size too, small to fit on the counter and not take up space.

    Good Coffee brew device

Brews great coffee from a well designed machine although, brew basket and holder plastic parts are very flimsy or weak. If either a glass or stainless steel Brew Basket were available, it would be a far better choice eliminating more “plastic” the coffee passes through…

    The BEST!!!

This coffee maker makes the best cup of coffee! Love the no frills approach and 5 YEAR warrantyโ€ฆ.unheard of! Water capacity and temperature is perfect. So easy to clean and see when it needs cleaning (recommended every 3 months). Itโ€™s very well made.I was use to a clock and timer so I could have coffee waiting on me when I got up but this approach is much better! I fill the water reservoir the night before, add the coffee when I get upโ€ฆit only takes minutes for it to brew. You wonโ€™t be sorry you got this coffee maker!

Best (extracting AND looking) automatic home coffee brewer I’ve used

Excellent machine. I’ve worked in specialty coffee for a few years, and, so far, all I’ve been able to use at home has been a Hario V60 because I couldn’t find a drip machine that was simple enough to operate for my taste AND that supplied water that was hot and consistent enough to achieve a proper extraction. (I used the Zojirushi Zutto for a while, and I loved using it RE: its user-friendly design, but it rarely put out anything hotter than MAYBE 175F, way too cold.) I saw this Moccamaster on sale, so I snagged it, choosing this model for the variable flow rate. I’m super impressed. It brews hot, it’s simple to operate and clean, it’s super quiet, and it looks great. I’ve only used it a few times, and I still need to figure out what grind sizes work the best for different amounts of coffee, but it’s already giving me better coffee than I’ve had out of any other home machine. Snag one.One aside: the Juniper colorway is much darker and richer than is shown in the Amazon photos. I happen to prefer the color that it turned out to be in person, but it’s worth keeping in mind.

    Best tasting home brewed coffee

After considerable research I decided to purchase a Moccamaster. The coffee machine I replaced was a conventional drip maker that was inconsistent in taste and I was looking for something that provides a quality cup of coffee. I knew exactly what to expect when it arrived and wasnโ€™t surprised by the plastic parts or anything associated with the build. A major plus for me is the longevity of the company and replacement parts which are readily available if necessary. Itโ€™s simple to clean and has a cool retro look. I like the fact that itโ€™s no frills, I donโ€™t need another device that connects via blue tooth or requires an app. Low tech is better in this instance. Now the most important part that in my opinion is necessary for a quality cup of coffee. Itโ€™s a tremendous difference when you grind your own beans. I was purchasing ground coffee from a specialty shop and it wasnโ€™t working in the Moccamaster. The coffee was coming out too weak, didnโ€™t have a smooth taste and the flavors were muted. Grinding the beans solves the issue and you get the full flavor of the bean. What works for me when brewing is starting the unit without the carafe and allowing water to drip just over the top of the grounds. I then pause the brew cycle by turning off the machine. I let the coffee bloom for 60 seconds lightly stir the grounds , replace the carafe and finish the brew cycle, Once brewed I then allow an additional 4 minutes of rest. The finished cup of coffee is the perfect temperature and there is no hint of bitterness or sour notes. Itโ€™s a great addition to the morning with a quality cup of coffee.Update:I was experiencing some unexpected inconsistencies with my coffee. I went back to the beginning and eliminated all possibilities related to what could be happening. As it turned out it was my old coffee mugs. The ceramic mug had degraded and cleaning was not possible. The stainless mugs were stained. Both scenarios when adding very hot coffee released an unpleasant taste. I completely cleaned the stainless mugs and purchased a new ceramic mug. Do yourself a favor and if you have old mugs get some new ones and if you have stainless mugs clean them. I found a tip that works. Drop a dishwasher detergent tablet in the mug and add boiling water. The results are quite incredible.

Awesome brew quality; parts could be improved

Seeing my decade-old Cuisinart finally give out gave me the excuse I needed to finally buy this excellent Technivorm, long the darling drip coffee maker of aficionados. In terms of coffee quality, it does not disappoint. Assuming you are using high quality, freshly-ground beans at the correct “Golden Cup” ratio (as helpfully illustrated in the included chart), the Moccamaster does three very important things to deliver perfect drip coffee:* It brews at the correct temperature. Many brewers use a slightly lower temperature, resulting in sour notes.* Its amazing showerhead design ensures even saturation of the grounds for even extraction. This is crucial and the secret behind fussy “pour-over” preparation techniques.* It funnels the brew to the bottom of the carafe, passively “stirring” it for consistency. Most brewers don’t do these things well, and require a lot of intervention. It’s nearly silent, lacks unneeded features like a timer (you’re fresh-grinding your beans, remember?) and can brew a half-pot just as perfectly as a full pot, thanks to the brew selector switch. The switch affects both the brewing speed and hotplate temperature. The design is extremely functional. It’s easy to read the water tank level, which is crucial when trying to dial in the water/coffee ratio. The removable filter basket sits flat on a countertop, making it easy to fill and transport from grinder to brewer. And the removable lids are better than a “flip-top” design.Where it fails is the flimsy build quality and rickety part integration. This is a “classic” design in that it hasn’t really been updated since the mid 1970’s, and it shows – the carafe is eggshell thin and destined to suffer damage, the plastic pieces feel cheap and lightweight, and none of the parts fit together snugly. For the price, all of these things could be redesigned and improved without losing a bit of brew quality.

    Love My Turquoise Moccamaster!

Iโ€™d been limping along with a generic $9 drip coffee maker for years, always putting off the research to find a good one. This year, Iโ€™d had enough of that cheap maker. I dove deep into researching SCA-approved brewers, binged YouTube videos, and read tons of reviews. After all that, I settled on the Technivorm Moccamaster, mainly because itโ€™s not made in China, has a solid warranty, and offers parts and service through a U.S. location. At first, I was leaning toward the thermal carafe model. Coffee nerds kept saying glass carafes give coffee a burnt taste if it sits too long. I know that taste from a lifetime of glass carafe makers, but I rarely let coffee sit that long. If I do, I just brew a fresh pot. Plus, glass carafes are way cheaper to replace and easier to clean than those glass-lined thermal ones, which are also breakable but cost a lot more. The color choice was tough. I was leaning toward a safe, neutral one, but then I read a review (canโ€™t find it now) that basically said: if youโ€™re torn between a boring color and a bold one, go boldโ€”you wonโ€™t regret it. That pushed me to pick the turquoise, and Iโ€™m obsessed with it. No regrets!Iโ€™m not a clean freak and never bothered to thoroughly clean my old coffee makers after every use. But this Moccamaster? It feels like it deserves the extra few seconds to stay spotless. Itโ€™s built to last years, and I want to keep it looking nice.Since I couldnโ€™t see one in person before buying, I was a bit nervous about the plastic quality some folks complained about. Honestly, I donโ€™t get the fussโ€”the plastic feels solid enough, not cheap or flimsy, and every part is replaceable through Amazon or Technivorm. The glass carafe does seem a tad thin, so Iโ€™m sure Iโ€™ll break it eventually. The carafe lid pops on and off super easily for cleaning. The water reservoir lid feels a little loose, but itโ€™s not a big deal to meโ€”what am I locking up in there?Heads-up: Moccamasters need coarsely ground coffee. If youโ€™re using pre-ground grocery store stuff, you might want to pick a different SCA-approved brewer. I used to be a pre-ground coffee person too, but I switched to hand-grinding specialty beans right before getting this. Iโ€™ve accidentally ground too fine a couple of times, and it almost overflowed the filter basketโ€”way too close for comfort. Some coffee gurus say to stir the grounds while brewing for the best extraction. I wasnโ€™t planning to bother, but Iโ€™m usually nearby (I leave the filter lid off during brewing). When itโ€™s down to about a cup left, Iโ€™ll give it a quick stir if I notice dry grounds near the filter basket handle. A few times, I forgot to stir until it was done, but when I checked, all the grounds were wet anyway. The coffee tasted just as good to meโ€”I couldnโ€™t tell the difference. Is this the ultimate coffee maker? I donโ€™t know. But it feels well-made, I love how it looks, and the coffee it brews is fantastic. I think itโ€™ll last for years. Would I pay full price? Probably not. Did I wait for a sale? Nope. I got an Amazon store card with a $100 instant gift card, which made it feel like a solid deal for a coffee maker Iโ€™m thrilled with.

The Best Coffee Maker Iโ€™ve Ever Owned โ€“ And I Got It for a Steal!

Iโ€™ve had my eye on the Technivorm Moccamaster KGBV for a while, and when it dropped to an amazing price on Prime Day, I finally pulled the trigger โ€” and Iโ€™m so glad I did. This machine is everything serious coffee lovers rave about. From the build quality (handmade in the Netherlands!) to the SCA-certified brew temperature, itโ€™s clear this isnโ€™t just another coffee maker โ€” itโ€™s in a league of its own. The brewing process is fast, consistent, and ridiculously quiet, and the end result? Smooth, flavorful coffee every single time. No bitterness. No burnt aftertaste. Just pure, clean coffee.I also love the retro aesthetic and solid construction. It looks great on my counter and feels like something that will last for decades, not just a few years. The best part about this is that it is simple, the functionality is all you need. On, off. Full, half. Really could not be easier.Bottom line: if youโ€™re even thinking about upgrading your coffee game, this is the one to get โ€” and if you can snag it during a Prime Day deal like I did, even better.

    Love It

We love this coffeemaker. Wanted low plastic and strong coffee. Got both plus a company that REALLY stands behind their product, even after many years of ownership. This coffeemaker will make one stout cup of coffee if thatโ€™s what you want. We tried too many coffeemakers that just could not put out a strong cup of coffee. In fact, we were able to use much less coffee to get the strength we like because it seems to have a very efficient brew process. We went with the Moccanaster even though it does have a plastic brew basket – the service and guarantee just couldnโ€™t be beat. People keep these coffeemakers FOREVER. By the time weโ€™d of bought 2-4 coffeemakers in the coming years we have the Moccamaster and our coffee woes are over. We spent more on this model but after much research and reading reviews we feel we made a good choice. I hope they can produce a plastic free model at some point.

    Best cup of coffee!

I did a lot of research about the factors that go into a good cup of coffee then took time to look for those factors in my next coffee maker. I also admitted to myself there were certain parameters I would never use. This coffee is a great and my 2nd cup is as good as my 1st!

Scratch on outlet arm out of the box

I will update my review based on how customer service responds.Great looking machine, but shortly after my very careful unboxing, I noticed a scratch/blemish int the “outlet arm”. It may be a small detail, but on a $350 coffee maker, “hand made” and inspected this needs to be replaced.I worked in manufacturing in Denmark for 22 years (production line equipment for the Ice Cream Industry) so I understand that there is no such thing as a flawless production process. As long as customer service treats me right, this review will likely go to 5 stars.Edit: Customer service was top notch. New outlet arm is in the mail, no fuss. First couple pots of coffee were great… though I am brand new to grinding my own beans so looking forward to experimenting with different beans/grinds (also purchased a Baratza Virtuoso + grinder).

    Roll’s Royce of Coffee Makers

The media could not be loaded.

Iโ€™ve owned a lot of coffee makers over the years, but the Moccamaster is on another level. In my mind, it’s the Rolls Royce of coffee machines. It’s got a nice design, sleek, makes coffee quickly, makes a great cup of coffee and is unfussy.I actually bought mine used for $200. I was nervous about going the โ€œusedโ€ route, but the description was spot on. When it arrived, it looked practically brand new except for a tiny cosmetic chip. The performance? Exactly like my previous Mocha Master which brews a full pot faster than I can grind my beans, and the coffee tastes smooth and clean every single time. No complicated buttons, no fiddly settings (no timers so it won’t work if that’s your thing), just straightforward and also easy to clean. It’s quiet and also beautifully a designed machine that I kind of like on my counter. In the end, it that does one thing well.

Great coffee + gorgeous design, but the โ€œfullโ€ tank brews less than expected

We love the look and build of the Moccamaster (ours is the off-white KBGV). It heats fast, brews clean and balanced coffee, and feels like a lifetime appliance. However, the full reservoir doesnโ€™t yield as much coffee as we expectedโ€”more like 3/4 of a full pot in real-world use. For us, that ends up being about two mugs each (see photo), which is fine most mornings but a little short on weekends or when guests are over. What we like* Bright, smooth cup with very consistent extraction* Heats up quickly; simple, sturdy controls* Beautiful on the counter; easy to cleanWhat could be better* Full reservoir yields less than a โ€œtrueโ€ full pot in practice* The warmer plate is fine, but we wish the brew volume matched expectationsTips* Use #4 paper filters and weigh your coffee for consistency * If you need more volume, plan on brewing a second small batchOverall, itโ€™s a high-quality brewer that makes excellent coffee. Weโ€™re giving it 4 stars only because the brew volume doesnโ€™t quite match what we expected from a full pot.

    Great coffee maker

The Moccamaster has quickly become my favorite coffee machine. It brews coffee impressively fast, which is great on busy mornings, and the quality of the coffee is excellentโ€”smooth, hot, and consistent every time. Beyond performance, itโ€™s also much more attractive than other machines in the same price range. The sleek design looks great on my counter and feels like itโ€™s built to last for years. Between the speed, style, and build quality, I see this as an investment piece that adds both function and a touch of class to my kitchen. Highly recommended for anyone who takes their coffee seriously.

Just made my very first cup and THIS IS WHAT Iโ€™VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR!This is like a cup of my favorite coffee-shop coffee! I use French roast and it is BOLD, flavorful, and delicious! Iโ€™m so glad โ€œCheesegalโ€ (Instagram) recommended this (plus a coffee grinder she recommended). Today I just used a new fresh bag of already ground French Roast, but after this bag is complete, Iโ€™ll be grinding my own daily. But this cup tastes perfect!I got the white color during Prime days for just $179โ€ฆ what a bargain that I couldnโ€™t pass up. BUT now that Iโ€™ve tried it, I would pay regular price too. Itโ€™s worth it.

Still making the best possible coffee every day, a year after purchase

The Moccamaster not only looks cool, but it is also very well made and brings the best out of coffee beans, day in day out cup after cup. I did not expect that the coffee tasted so much better than when it was made in a regular coffee maker (popular brand). I grind the beans; use filtered water and weigh the ground coffee for a consistent delicious cup. I rinse and wash the parts regularly with warm water and dish soap, never in the dishwasher. Not inexpensive, but better to buy a well-made model once than a new one every (other) year to replace a broken one.

    Cannot use reverse osmosis water

It is a great coffee machine however these are my issues:- Reverse osmosis water is not supposed to be used (per manual). This is our primary source of drinking water- I also agree with the other reviewers as it relates to the carafe (coffee pot) and the handle. Considering the price point I would have expected a sturdier carafe, one little bump against the counter and it will probably crack. The handle is also very flimsy- The 10 cups is realistically 8 cups. You will have to fill it up to almost 10 cups if each person wants 2 cups of coffee

    nice coffee maker

this is a sharp looking machine that works quickly and quietly and makes good coffee. I think that set up is a bit over complicated and can cause issues if you are not careful in the setup

    Good coffee fast

After reading specs and reviews of a dozen or more coffee makers, I settled on the Moccamaster KBGV select. Although it is pricey, I didn’t want another leaky $80 to $100 model, and Moccamasters are supposed to last a good while (we’ll see). It makes a full pot in about six minutes and is whisper quiet compared to all the other makers I’ve owned. I started with the recommended seven level scoops of coffee (Folgers Colombian) for a full pot, but the spousal unit found that too strong, so I reduced it to six and a half. Everyone’s taste will vary. Some reviews complained about the plastic of the brew basket lid or the reservoir lid being cheap and flimsy, or the brew basket lid warping from the steam. Others thought the carafe glass seemed thin or that the carafe handle didn’t feel secure. I didn’t really find any of this to be the case. Now, the search is on for a decent burr grinder so I can start buying beans again!

    Moccamaster

I had ordered miccomaster in Tourquest but received it in Polish Silver which is ok. My coffee is much better tasting. I went to DD to get coffee and the coffee was bitter not smooth like the moccamaster makes there is no comparison. I do like it and recommend.

A Great Coffee Pot That’s HOT!

After many years of waiting, I decided to purchase the Cherry Red Moccamaster (sic) automatic drip coffee maker. I’ll explain the 4-star rating (4.5 would have worked well)… If you can get it on sale, it’s an added bonus. It purports to brew at 212 degrees. While I cannot prove that, I used my laser thermometer to measure the temperature post brewing; that was a consistent 186 in the coffee pot. It’s a perfect drinking temperature. It’s also a fast brewing machine, as it can produce “8” cups in roughly 5 minutes. The extraction is excellent! One has to decide which type of paper coffee filters to use–non-bleached is highly preferred. Also, it is important to wet the paper filtering and then adding coffee ground. I’m guessing that the wet filter will allow the majority of the extraction to get into the coffee pot instead of being absorbed into the filter. Sure, I’m a picky coffee drinker. However, this also explains the slightly lower star rating. The paper filter works too well and absorbs all of the natural oil in the coffee. As a result, you get this concentrated Chemex (sic) style of coffee–a tad on the bitter side. I like the balance of oil in my coffee–it’s smoother for sure. I was trying to get used to this, but the lack of oil became a major problem. For another $30.00, one can purchase a #4 stainless steel metal filter. I tried it this morning, and I was elated! The tradeoff is more oil AND cleaning the metal #4 basket; the paper ones are just tossed into the trash and very little to clean in the sink. However, I achieved balance without using the force… Ha ha. The other reason for 4 stars is the confusing and almost pointless button next to the power switch. The water is going to brew for 4 or 8 cups. Does this half pot/full pot switch actually do anything? I’m not sure… The pot will also turn off exactly 100 minutes after the brewing process begins: Great safety feature. However, one cannot hear any kind of bell or sound other than a subtle click. My recommendation is to remove the aforementioned button/slider switch and put some kind of bell in there–even if it’s an old school sound. If it dings when it turns on AND shuts off, I’d be thrilled. I’m safely suggesting to avoid adding any complicated LED’s and electronics to complicate this very simple machine, respectfully. To wrap this up, it’s a great machine that brews quickly and remains HOT in the carafe. It’s also attractive and many colors are offered. Along with that, you can go with glass or metal carafes; I prefer the former so I can see when the coffee is finished and how much remains. The 5-year warranty is also an attractive selling point!

On the fence? Hop on over and buy one!

The media could not be loaded.

I’ve never spent this much on a coffee maker in my life and never thought I would. But I’m glad I did.I have had Cuisinart coffee makers for years and I am so tired of having to buy a new Cuisinart after a couple of years of use when it begins to malfunction. I have had to return brand new Cuisinart coffee makers as they didn’t work right and then wait for the replacement. Don’t know why I was so loyal to the brand. Maybe because they used to be much better and lasted longer. This Moccamaster has a five year warranty – that tells you something right there (don’t forget to register yours if you purchase one – they have an online form). It’s made in the Netherlands with meticulous crafting and testing. It’s nice looking. It’s easy to clean. It’s fast. It makes hot coffee. It’s smaller so it fits on my countertop nicely without taking up a lot of room.At first I wasn’t sure if I’d like the Rose Gold even though it is pretty, but I’ve come to like it and it’s a change from the stainless steel I’ve had for years. And, the Rose Gold was $60 less, so there’s that!Keep in mind that though this carafe holds ten cups, this is ten 4 ounce cups, not 6-8 ounce mugs. Fine by me as I drink a few mugs in the morning and then I’m done, and I’m the only one drinking coffee. These take paper filters – I’ve used a gold filter for many years because I don’t like tossing things in the landfill. However, two things: my gold filter does fit in there should I want to use it; and you can rinse the paper filters and reuse them a few times. Between those two things, less in the landfill. There is research to indicate that using paper filters doesn’t affect your cholesterol levels like the gold permanent filters. So something to think about. However using the paper filters does affect taste to some degree – I have to get used to the more ‘smoother’ taste of the coffee without the oils. But on the good side, there’s not the sludgy stuff at the bottom of my cup, and no coffee grounds escaping into my cup.Though it indicates to use fresh ground beans, I use both fresh ground and already ground. The fresh ground can taste better, but sometimes the already ground is convenient and easy and right there, and on sale. This is so easy to use right out of the box, once you put the parts in place. This is a no frills type coffee maker – there isn’t a timer but I never used the timer on my Cuisinart, not once, so I don’t miss that feature at all. There’s no clock but why do I need a clock? I don’t even have clocks in my house other than what is on my stove and cable box. There’s two buttons: one to select half pot or full pot, and the on/off button. The plug is weird. You have to kind of turn it partially sideways. It was annoying at first but now I just do it and don’t think about it. Cord is short, which I like. Hate snaking cords – I like the cord hidden behind the coffee maker and this one stays behind just great. What I also like is there isn’t those two deep dark areas that are difficult to get to and clean like in the Cuisinart and many other coffee machines. No matter how much I cleaned the machine, I always wondered how clean it really was down in there where you pour the water and where the brewing happens I guess. Here you can see where the water is, and it only goes through the stainless steel ‘arm’ and then down the little funnel and into the grounds. Cleaning is simple. There is no coffee going inside the machine anywhere. They suggest descaling it about every 3 months using a descaler and not vinegar. I never liked to use vinegar anyway.Out of the box I ‘brewed’ water only 3 times (they suggest 2) to be sure any factory dust or whatever was gone. It’s quiet. No loud beeping when it’s done. No loud gargling gurgles. Though you can hear it gently brewing. And you can see the bubbles coming up in the water – it happens fast!Mine has a warming plate. I don’t know if all of the models have it. The KBGV Select has a full pot or half pot selection. I used the half pot selection this morning when I brewed about a half pot and my coffee tasted better than when I used the full pot selection on half a pot – so it does something.I’m happy with mine and glad I finally purchased it after doing so much reading and research on coffee machines – for months! — the Moccamaster kept coming up over and over in the Best Coffee Makers lists – and often number 1.If you are on the fence, hop on over, if you don’t mind the price and don’t mind it’s a no-frills machine. The best part of it is the quality – I shouldn’t have to buy another coffee machine for many many years!
